Residents Urged To Sign Up To 'Ready To Switch'

Residents are being asked to bring their energy bills into the Peterborough city centre on Monday 25 March to sign up for a scheme that has already saved hundreds of city household's money on their energy bills.

The Ready to Switch Bring Your Bill day will take place between 10am and 4pm in the Council Chamber at the Town Hall and at the Customer Contact Centre at Bayard Place. Residents will just need to bring their latest energy bill which should include information on their current supplier, tariff and usage, and help will be available to register.

For this current round of the Ready to Switch scheme the city council has received Government funding to promote the initiative to minority communities. As part of the Bring Your Bill event Polish, Lithuanian and Urdu translators will be on hand to make it as easy as possible for anyone to save on their bills.

The second round of the money-saving scheme was launched at the start of the month and householders are able to sign up until Monday 8 April.

The first round of Ready to Switch saved householders an average of £122 a year across all tariffs and dual fuel monthly direct debit customers saved an average of £149 a year. In fact, some residents have reported much bigger savings of over £250 a year off their current spend on gas and electricity.

Councillor Nigel North, Cabinet Advisor to the Leader of Peterborough City Council on Environment Capital, said: "The emphasis on this round is to try and get the message to vulnerable families and provide extra help to those who don’t speak English as their first language - to ensure they can also make a saving on their energy.

"This extra funding will allow us to continue to tackle fuel poverty in the city, and combined with the multi-million pound agreement with British Gas and the council tax freeze, it shows how hard we are trying to support residents when times are hard. So bring your bill down to the Town Hall on Monday 25 March and find out more."
