Morgan Sindall Professional Services Receives Two Awards

Engineering and design consultancy Morgan Sindall Professional Services has picked up two prizes at the Lighting Design Awards for its scheme at Gatwick Airport.

The company won the prestigious awards in the Low Carbon and Public Building categories at the event held at the Hilton hotel in Mayfair, London.

The awards recognise the consultancy's success in transforming three separate search areas in Gatwick's South Terminal into a single, world-class search and security area. The lighting scheme, praised by the judging panel as a "great use of light for wayfinding", included intelligent, low energy LED fittings which reduced energy consumption by over 33% and improved operational efficiency in the area.

Richard Webster, managing director of Morgan Sindall Professional Services, said: "This project is a market leading example of collaborative design successfully improving a building’s efficiency and carbon footprint. Its use of intelligent lighting and innovative design reduces energy consumption and improves wayfinding through the area, fully embracing the awards' philosophy of sustainability and creativity."

Morgan Sindall Professional Services is currently working with sister company, construction and infrastructure firm Morgan Sindall, on the £16.5 million refurbishment and enabling works contract at Gatwick Airport known as the South Terminal Airside Development (STAD) project.

Morgan Sindall was appointed to the £1.2 billion upgrades and improvements framework at the airport in 2011. It is currently delivering a portfolio of modernisation work to improve the customer experience at Gatwick Airport's South Terminal.
