Council Launches New Scheme To Help Slash Energy Bills
A new scheme is helping residents to slash their energy bills by offering free loft and cavity wall insulation.
Warm and Cozy has been created by Hillingdon Council and Dyson Energy Services to make homes in the borough more energy efficient.
The Warm and Cozy scheme is funded by energy companies but with support from the council, residents can expect added security and peace of mind.
Residents living in poorly insulated properties or those with no working central heating can qualify for the scheme in two ways:
• If they live in key postcode areas.
• If they rent privately or own their own home and are in a low income household on certain means tested benefit or credits.
Warm and Cozy is already up and running and Hillingdon Council is working with Dyson Energy Services to assess homes and provide the insulation they need.
Installing cavity wall insulation can save an average household up to £140 a year on their energy bills, and putting in roof or loft insulation could save up to £180 a year, according to the Energy Saving Trust.
Cllr Philip Corthorne, Cabinet Member for Social Services, Health and Housing, said: "This scheme will make such a difference to people in Hillingdon struggling to afford to heat their homes.
"Insulation keeps properties warm for longer, cuts energy bills and reduces the environmental impact of fuel consumption. The benefits are there for all to see, so I would encourage residents to find out if they can take advantage of the scheme and make their homes even cosier for free."
