Kier Recruits Nine New Apprentices
Kier North Tyneside is helping to tackle unemployment across the region by recruiting nine new apprentices.
With the latest unemployment figures standing at 2.52 million, and a new industry report revealing a 32% increase in applications for apprenticeship schemes, Kier is providing high quality training opportunities for those looking to start their careers in the repairs and maintenance industry.
As a socially responsible employer, Kier has offered nine youngsters the chance to gain vital on-the-job experience through a 14-month apprenticeship scheme. The new starters, who are aged between 16 and 18 and come from the local area, will work alongside dedicated Kier mentors while attending classroom sessions to support their development.
The apprentices, eight of which will develop skills in joinery and one in plumbing, will learn a combination of practical skills and theory, which will assist them in their development over the course of the apprenticeship.
Kier regional director, Mike Furze, said: "At Kier we strive to make a positive contribution to the communities in which we work and we will continue to invest in the future of young people in the local area. Apprenticeships give young people a fantastic opportunity to learn practical skills while on the job and earning a wage. At Kier, we continue to offer excellent training opportunities to youngsters from all backgrounds who can learn valuable lifelong trades with us."
