Warrington Borough Council has granted planning permission to Omega Warrington Limited (OWL) to construct a 700,000 sq ft regional logistics centre for the Travis Perkins Group on Omega North.
The Travis Perkins Group is the UK's largest supplier to the building and construction market. The new £35m logistics centre will serve to supply Travis Perkins Group wholesale and retail outlets across the region, supporting around 450 jobs on site.
The outline terms of the deal were announced and agreed between OWL and the Travis Perkins Group at the end of April subject to planning approval being granted. Construction is expected to be completed in 2014 with operation planned for 2015.
The Travis Perkins Group will join Brakes and Hermes, both of which have logistics hubs under construction on Omega North, creating a combined floor space of over one million sq ft. with a total investment figure of over £100m and the provision of 1,400 full time jobs.
Councillor Terry O'Neill, Leader of Warrington Borough Council said: "From what was an empty site in autumn last year, it is amazing to think that by the end of this year, Omega North will only have space left for around 100,000sq ft of development. This endorses and reaffirms the confidence that business has in Warrington as an investment location and that Warrington is the place to be."
Landowners of Omega, the Homes and Communities Agency said of the positive planning new progress on site: "It's good to see yet more progress on the Omega North site. The permission to move forward with the logistics centre is great news and highlights how we are working together as partners to generate investment and create jobs."
The approved development sits within the 1.6m sq ft of logistics space which was granted outline planning consent on Omega North in 2007. Omega Warrington Ltd will be building the occupier a freehold 'turn-key' unit of 630,000sqft of on the ground floor with 70,000sq ft at mezzanine level.
