EDF Energy has won the 2013 private sector Diversity and Inclusion Award.
Run by the Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion (ENEI), the energy company scooped the award at a ceremony held at The Law Society, Chancery Lane, London.
Denise Keating, Chief Executive of ENEI, said: "These awards recognise the commitment of organisations to achieving diverse and inclusive workplaces, celebrating the teams and individuals who really are making a difference. With over 90 organisations entering the awards, we have been encouraged and moved by the steps organisations are taking to promote equality and diversity and hope this will encourage other companies to follow their lead."
The award, which comes just 12 months after the company achieved the Diversity Works for London Gold Standard, recognised a range of activities and initiatives across EDF Energy including top level commitment from senior management, engagement initiatives, targeted recruitment and talent activities such as its Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Mentoring Scheme and robust benchmarking to measure progress against the best in the field.
Janet Hogben, EDF Energy's Chief People Officer and Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Action Group, said: "Everyone plays a role in creating a culture of inclusion and it is something that I and a lot of people feel very passionately about. Recognition from the Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion is another clear signal that we are on the right track with our shared commitment towards an inclusive and diverse organisation."
