House Building Begins In Wellborough

A turf cutting ceremony to mark the start of construction of new two, three and four-bedroom homes on the former Saxby site in Chester Road, Wellingborough took place on Tuesday 6 August.

The Mayor of Wellingborough, Councillor Graham Lawman, cut the first turf within the six acre (2.5 hectare) site. He was joined by Nick Moore, deputy managing director of Kier Homes, which will now start work to transform the derelict site into a new residential development comprising 134 new homes.

Councillor Lawman, said: "It's great to see Kier Homes starting work to transform this derelict site into high quality new homes in the borough. Well-located sites like this, within walking distance of the town centre and railway station and with views across the nearby Castlefield Park, will do much to boost the vitality of the town. I look forward to seeing the works progress and ultimately to welcoming our first new residents."

The location of the new homes, a short, ten-minute walk into the Wellingborough town centre, means buyers will be able to make the most of local employment, shops and leisure opportunities. The proximity to Wellingborough station will also enable a short walk or cycle for commuters – with journeys to London St Pancras International in under an hour. Families will also welcome the site's proximity to a number of primary and secondary schools.
