The official start-on-site at Hillington Square, King's Lynn, the major estate regeneration programme which Lovell is working on for Freebridge Community Housing, has taken place.
The start of work is the culmination of years of planning and hard work that have gone into the £23m regeneration project so far and is a significant landmark for Freebridge and the local community.
The first phase, which is due for completion in 2014, will see Greyfriars House and Millfleet House undergo extensive refurbishment.
Tony Hall, Chief Executive of Freebridge, said: "This is a very important event in the journey that is taking place at Hillington Square. A lot of work has been happening in the background to get us to this stage, but for most people this will be the first change that they actually see.
"The start on site shows people who live at Hillington Square, and also the wider community, that the regeneration of the area is now really starting to move on. We are looking forward to the first phase being ready in 2014."
Tony Tann, regional director at Lovell, commented: "This is a very exciting project for us that we are delighted to be working on over the next few years. The official start on site allows us to show the community the work that has been carried out so far, but also demonstrate what more needs to take place. We will be working alongside people that are living at Hillington Square and will be keen to get feedback on the site developments whenever possible."
The plans for Hillington Square, which have been developed by Freebridge with lead designers Hemingway Design and architects Mae LLP in consultation with the local community, will transform the 1960s estate.
