Balfour Beatty Prepares For 'Open Doors' Weekend

Balfour Beatty is getting ready to welcome the public onto its sites for the second ever 'Open Doors' weekend, taking place on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 September.

Balfour Beatty will have 11 sites participating in the initiative, which is run in partnership with the UK Contractors Group (UKCG), and aims to showcase the world of construction to the public by offering unique access to working sites.

Open Doors also exists to demonstrate the diverse and exciting range of career opportunities that construction has to offer, and the wide range of skills that need to come together to make buildings and infrastructure part of our everyday lives.

Last year saw Balfour Beatty projects such as the Blackfriars Station redevelopment and the London Aquatics Centre invite the public on to their sites.

This year, even more sites are being opened up, including the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, the Modular Systems+ factory in the West Midlands, student accommodation for the University of Edinburgh and Exeter Library in Devon.

Nicholas Pollard, Chief Executive Officer, Balfour Beatty, Construction Services UK, said: "Open Doors is our chance to show the public the vital role construction plays in helping to make communities better places to live and work.

"It is also a good opportunity to show young people the kind of opportunities we have on offer within our industry and I am very much looking forward to welcoming the public onto our sites."
