Planning permission has been granted for the new Royal Hospital – a decision which has been warmly welcomed, according to the Liverpool Express.
Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, said: "It is now all systems go for the new hospital, which is fantastic news for the city. This world class facility will bring massive health, education and economic benefits. We will continue to support the Trust to deliver its ambitious proposals and make sure we maximise its impact, both during construction and when it opens."
Aidan Kehoe, chief executive of theRoyal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust said: "We are delighted that Liverpool City Council have approved Carillion's planning application and would like to thank councillors, MPs and the people of Liverpool for their support. With the new Royal we are creating a new kind of hospital designed to meet the needs of the people of Liverpool and Merseyside and dealing with the health challenges we face. It will provide both the most advanced treatment and the highest standards of comfort, privacy and dignity for patients. The new Royal will set the standard for what a 21st Century NHS should be like.
"The BioCampus that will be built on the current hospital site, will make Liverpool a city that develops and attracts global talent. It will generate 5,000 high value jobs, many of which will be provided by the city's University Technical College and will help the city develop a thriving knowledge economy. It will be a centre for leading international clinicians, pioneering researchers and cutting-edge Life Science businesses. This development will change the fortunes of the city, improving the health and wealth of Liverpool."
