Skanska Projects Receive Top Honours At The BCI Awards

Three Skanska projects have picked up top honours at the British Construction Industry (BCI) Awards 2013.

The BCI awards recognise the very best practice and achievement in construction and engineering.

Projects Skanska has been involved in won in three categories: Best Practice (Borough Viaduct); BIM Project Application (Woodlands School, Essex) as well as the Judges Special award the London 2012 Olympic Park project.

At Borough Viaduct, Skanska was the principal contractor responsible for the demolition and reinstatement of a 350m twin-track viaduct spanning the bustling Borough Market. In winning the best practice award the team was recognised for its collaborative approach and safe delivery.

The BIM project application award was recognition for the delivery of a BIM exemplar that benefits the design, construction and critically of on-going facilities management. It was a genuine enabler for delivering a much better product over its lifetime. The project is fully in line with the government strategy to embrace BIM and whole life cost management.

The Judges' Special award was presented in recognition for a UK or international building or civil engineering project which was considered particularly inspirational. As one of three principal contractors, Skanska helped transform 250ha of barren land into a fantastic natural landscape for the Olympic venues, new businesses, homes and recreational facilities.

Civil engineering project director, Susan Fitzpatrick, said: "Winning the best practice award for Borough Viaduct is a fantastic achievement.

"It's testament to the close and productive working relationships we developed with our client Network Rail, project partners, the site teams and local community.

"Borough market is an historic and busy market and we managed to keep it operational throughout, while delivering on time and budget. Well done to all involved."
