BBC Award Facilities Management Contract

Interserve, the international support services and construction group, has been awarded a five year facilities management contract with the BBC.

The contract has a provision to extend for up to four more years and a value of over £150 million for the five year term.

It includes the management and delivery of services at over 150 facilities across the UK, covering a floor space of 590,000 square metres. The portfolio covers facilities such as Broadcasting House in London, MediaCityUK in Salford, Pacific Quay in Glasgow and all other BBC operational sites.

Interserve will be responsible for 26 services ranging from critical broadcast engineering and business continuity services, through to implementing a new, flexible and dynamic workplace support model.

The workplace model is designed around maximising creativity across the unique operating environments within the organisation. It will deploy new technologies to allow increased visibility of how and when spaces are used, allowing the corporation to make informed decisions on its estate moving forwards. Approximately 1,100 employees will transfer to Interserve from existing providers.

This new contract extends the relationship between Interserve and the broadcaster, complementing its construction framework secured in 2006 and re-secured in 2010, through which Interserve has delivered circa £40 million of projects to date.

Alan Bainbridge, Director of the BBC's facilities management re-procurement project, said: "The BBC was impressed by all the bids received, but the vision and better value offered by Interserve made them the right choice for this important contract.

"The ambition for the new contract will see our facilities management services transformed with innovative, yet simple solutions to delight staff and audiences, supporting the BBC in the digital age. This will ensure our buildings – both old and new – are places which foster creativity, helping people deliver their best, most creative work, and which are welcoming and open to audiences. This will ultimately deliver quality and best value to licence fee payers."
