Public Events To Be Held To View Fletton Parkway Plans
People are being invited to attend two public events taking place in November where they will be able to view plans for the Fletton Parkway widening scheme in Peterborough.
Earlier this year the council was successfully awarded grant funding from the Department for Transport (DfT) and Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough Local Enterprise Partnership, in addition to developer contributions, in order to deliver the project.
The scheme will see the A1139 Fletton Parkway widened from two to three lanes in each direction between junction 1 and junction 2 (Goldhay Way/Malborne Way roundabout).
Also included in the £12.9 million plans is the reconstruction of the eastbound carriageway and sections of the westbound carriageway between junctions 1 and 2; and the alteration of the existing merge between the eastbound parkway traffic and the A1(M) northbound slip road traffic, to improve traffic flow and safety.
The events will take place at Orton Library, Bushfield, Orton Goldhay, Peterborough, on Thursday 7th November from 2pm to 8pm, and at Serpentine Green Shopping Centre on Tuesday 12th November from 2pm to 8pm.
Councillor Marco Cereste, Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Growth, Strategic Planning, Housing, Economic Development and Business Engagement, said: "Fletton Parkway forms a key part of Peterborough's road network and is the main route into the city from the south. Coupled with the city's plans to grow in the coming years, it is imperative that we increase the capacity of the parkway so that it can accommodate future growth in Peterborough.
"This has been recognised by the Government and the Local Enterprise Partnership and that is why they awarded us funding earlier this year to carry out the road widening scheme."
The parkway improvement works are anticipated to start in early January 2014 and scheduled to be completed by the end of November 2014.
