More local people will be able to stay local, thanks to the completion of 22 new homes in the Cornish village of Kilkhampton, near Bude.
The site off Jubilee Close, now known as Atlantic View Road and Sea View Close, has been developed by leading housing and care provider Sanctuary Group. It includes a mix of family accommodation, from two bedroom bungalows to four bedroom houses, all available on an affordable rental basis.
The £2.4 million scheme has attracted part-funding from the government's Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and has been built by contractors Markey Construction
Approval for the scheme was granted by Cornwall Council to help provide affordable homes in Kilkhampton, allowing people to remain or return to the village in which they grew up, and providing comfortable bungalow accommodation for older or disabled residents from the local area.
Neil Clements, Sanctuary's development manager for Cornwall, said: "Its rural location and coastal views have made Kilkhampton a very desirable place to live – but like so many local villages in Cornwall, it has become out of reach for many of those who were born and bred there.
"Our aim with the Jubilee Close scheme was to provide a range of high quality affordable homes that would allow people to stay close to their families and friends in the village, and be part of the community they grew up in.
"The scheme is now complete and ready for people to move in – and we sincerely hope that this small development will make a big difference for many years to come to those families who make these properties their homes."
Cornwall Council cabinet member for homes and communities Geoff Brown said: "I am pleased with the completion of these new homes in Kilkhampton where there is a high housing need. This project underlines the Council's commitment to delivering affordable homes for our local families. I know that many of the local people who hoped to get one of the new homes have been in contact with our Affordable Housing Team on regular occasions and I'm sure that those who have been allocated a home will be delighted with what Sanctuary and Markey have built."
