Wates Construction has been awarded a £1.75m contract to deliver a multifunctional warehouse facility for Bury-based plastics manufacturer, Thumbs Up Bury Ltd, on Dumers Lane.

Standing alongside the organisation's existing manufacturing and distribution centres, the new 2,700 sq m building will become a research and development facility for tool trials and new product testing.

The scheme, which has been designed by Byrom Clark Roberts, will replace a former recycling centre, which is set to be demolished to make way for the new building. Completion of the project is due for summer 2014.

Tony Shenton, Business Unit Director for Wates Construction, North West, commented: "Our appointment to deliver the new facility in Bury has been closely followed by an efficient and prompt site set up process to ensure we accommodate the production and distribution expansion of Thumbs Up during the company's busiest trading period to date. The project has already commenced ahead of the planned start date and will be delivered on time and budget in the summer."
