Seddon To Build £5.9m Housing Scheme

Seddon has been appointed by Rooftop Housing Group to build a 49-home, £5.9m specialist housing scheme for older residents in Coleford, Gloucestershire.

Construction work has just started on the development which will create a dementia-focused housing with care complex made up of 28 one-bed apartments and 16 two-bed apartments.

The 4,913 sq m extra care apartment development is designed around a central courtyard and garden. The scheme also includes a Wellbeing Centre which will be open to the public and house a café, meeting rooms, activity spaces and a hub facility for outreach services. In addition, five two-bed accessible chalet-style bungalows will be built at the site.

Gloucester-based Quattro are the architects for the scheme which is due to be completed in February 2015. It is being built on land which has previously been used as a car park, next to Bank Street in the town centre. All homes will be for affordable rent and will meet the Lifetime Homes standard which means they can be readily adapted as residents' needs change.

David Hannon, development director at Rooftop Housing Group, said: "It's fantastic news that Seddon are starting work on regenerating this under-used brownfield site. The scheme will make a real difference to the lives of older people in Coleford as well as improving facilities for the wider community and providing a boost to the local economy."
