Public sector construction procurement, design and consultation specialist Scape has awarded a share of a £133 million contract to two leading contractors.
Wates Construction and Morgan Sindall have been announced as the successful contractors who will receive the third £100m+ contract to be awarded by Scape in recent weeks.
The contract, which has been awarded following a rigorous OJEU procurement process and will run for four years from January 2014, is for a regional framework arrangement for empa (the East Midlands Property Alliance) which is managed by Scape.
The aim of empa is to improve the procurement and delivery of construction projects and property maintenance for local authorities saving time and money for them and their council taxpayers.
Wates and Morgan Sindall have been awarded a share of empa’s Intermediate framework for contracts valued between £2m and £7.5m.
This contract is one of five empa framework contracts to be awarded in early 2014.
Wates' contract will cover the northern area of the region, including Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. This share of the contract has a total value of £88 million.
Morgan Sindall's contract will cover the southern area of the region, including Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Rutland - and Warwickshire and Peterborough, which also form part of the framework. This share of the contract has a total value of £45 million.
Phil Harrison, Managing Director, Wates Construction Midlands and North, commented: "Our appointment to the empa Intermediate framework is further evidence of our proven track record of working in partnership with Scape to facilitate the efficient procurement and construction of public sector building works across the East Midlands.
"Our position on the Intermediate framework, alongside our newly appointed role as sole contractor for the empa Provincial framework, will see us continue to work with Scape to fulfil our shared vision of providing value for money whilst contributing to local economic growth."
Morgan Sindall area director, Richard Fielding, said: "We're delighted to have been re-appointed to the empa framework. Since our appointment to the framework in 2009, we have delivered a range of education, commercial and leisure projects across the region.
"This success affirms our ability to consistently deliver quality schemes while working closely with local communities, subcontractors and suppliers and we look forward to continuing to work closely with our public sector clients and our partners at Scape."
