The Southwark Council cabinet will meet on 28th January to discuss the selection of a preferred partner to work in partnership with them in delivering the Aylesbury Estate regeneration project.
The partner will be the lynchpin in one of the most historically exciting and large-scale projects the capital has ever seen, attracting people, jobs and investment from across London to create a fairer future for the borough's residents.
Councillor Fiona Colley, cabinet member for regeneration at Southwark Council, said: "The Aylesbury estate is unique. There is no other neighbourhood of a comparable size, located so close to the heart of the city, in need of regeneration and with such a committed, active community.
"Southwark Council is committed to the regeneration of the Aylesbury estate and to the vision expressed through our Aylesbury Area Action Plan. Following an 18 month procurement process, cabinet will now consider the selection of Notting Hill Housing (Walworth Unlimited) as the council's preferred partner to deliver this unique and exceptional project."
The council required that any successful development partner provides a minimum of 50 per cent affordable homes, 75 per cent of which would be for social rent, and 25 per cent to be shared ownership or shared equity.
A minimum of 30 per cent, across all tenures, are to have three bedrooms or more, in order to meet the council's commitment to building more affordable and social rented homes in a range of sizes to meet local demand.
Over the whole regeneration site, in line with the Area Action Plan, there will be a net increase in homes from 2,400 to 4,200.
