Wombwell Library To Be Extended
Works will begin on the extension of Wombwell Library, which aims to provide more spaces for community groups and volunteers to use, on Monday 10 March.
The 2,032 sq/ft extension to the rear of the building will see the creation of an additional room that can be split into two smaller rooms, drop-in office space and separate toilets and kitchen.
The library will remain open during the building works, with library users and service visitors being able to access the building through the main entrance. The intercom system, for people needing assistance into the building will be relocated from the rear to the front of the building next to the fire exit.
Access for people in wheelchairs or in mobility scooters will be limited, due to the width of the fire exit door. Library staff have already been in contact with regular library users who may be affected to make alternative arrangements during the construction works.
People are reminded that if they are unable to visit one of the council's libraries or the mobile library that they can have books delivered to their home using the home delivery service.
There will also be some disruption to car parking during the works. The car park to the rear of the building, on Station Road, will need to be completely closed to enable essential foundation works to be carried out, from 10 March for 17 weeks. It will then be partially re-opened with 18 parking bays and one designated disabled parking bay for the remainder of the construction works.
During this period, people will be advised to use the nearby car parks on Summer Lane, Snowden Terrace and Mayflower Way.
