Interserve has backed the CBI's call for the UK government to make public sector contracts managed by private sector organisations simpler and more transparent.
Announcing new proposals to "boost transparency and trust" in the private and third sectors, the CBI recommended that every contract negotiation should include guidance on how information is released to the public, including publishing details of contracts online, a presumption towards open book accounting and regular audits from the National Audit Office.
The CBI also urged the industry to work harder to generate trust in the public services sector at a time when use of the private sector by government could increase.
"Taxpayers deserve reassurance that companies providing services outsourced by government deliver contracts in a transparent manner to the high standards they would expect," said Interserve Chief Executive Adrian Ringrose. "Interserve welcomes the CBI's recommendations and is committed to implementing them."
