'Get Into Construction' Programme Launches In Islington
Carpentry, bricklaying and plumbing are just some of the skills a group of local young people have learnt over the past two weeks on one of Islington's biggest construction projects.
The 'Get Into Construction' programme, run by The Prince's Trust, saw 12 unemployed young people, aged 18-25, gain the confidence and skills they need to work in construction while on a placement at the Packington estate.
The young people working on the estate, which is being regenerated by housing association The Hyde Group, in partnership with Rydon, also had the opportunity to earn their CSCS card – an essential health and safety qualification needed to work on a construction site.
Mark Mitchener, Managing Director of Rydon Construction, said: "I think construction is one of the most exciting industries for young people and we share The Hyde Group’s values about working with the local community. For many within this group, this could be the first step on a journey into a fantastic career in our industry. We're pleased to help address local unemployment with The Prince's Trust as part of the long-term regeneration of this estate in Islington."
