Balfour Beatty Opens Chester Site To German Students

Balfour Beatty has opened its Grosvenor Park regeneration site in Chester to German exchange students as part of the company's on-going commitment to training and developing the next generation of construction professionals.

Balfour Beatty has upgraded the 5.8 hectare park, with construction works staged to ensure the park can remain operational throughout the project. The company has completed a new children's play area and various landscaping works, now open to the public.

Organised in conjunction with West Cheshire College, the visit provided 14 construction students from Ferdinand-von-Steinbeis-Schule in Reutlingen with a valuable opportunity to experience a live construction site. The £3m project involves the design and build of a new pavilion, refurbishment of a Grade II listed building and various landscaping and restoration works.

Balfour Beatty aimed to give the students an insight to its various site operations and project roles whilst enabling them to verify their career choice and help them to understand exactly what employers and clients expect.

Peter Commins, Balfour Beatty Managing Director for the North West, said: "This opportunity provides students with live-site experience that contributes to their academic learning with the students receiving a full safety briefing, a tour of the project and overview of works.

"We were delighted to be able to welcome German students and will continue to work closely with our customer and West Cheshire College to provide these opportunities."
