Minister Visits Surf Snowdonia Development Site

Work on the Surf Snowdonia development in Wales is underway, creating over 100 construction jobs as well as up to 60 direct jobs when it officially opens.

Surf Snowdonia is one of Europe's first inland surfing destinations.

Tourism Minister, Edwina Hart, visited the site and announced a funding package worth £4.15 million to Conwy Adventure Leisure Ltd, which will go towards the creation of the development.

The Minister said: "I'm delighted to announce our support for what is going to be an iconic attraction for Wales. This project clearly supports our strategy in creating new, perception changing attractions. Surf Snowdonia will add a unique facility to an existing cluster of world class activity tourism products in the north Wales region and will drive growth by attracting additional higher spending visitors."

Steve Davies, Managing Director of Conwy Leisure Ltd, said: "Today's groundbreaking is an important milestone for Surf Snowdonia, not least because it is being done in the company of Welsh Government Tourism Minister, Edwina Hart, who has confirmed £4.15m of extra funding for this multi-million pound project.

"Keen surfers from around the world, whether amateur or experienced, will soon be descending on the Dolgarrog community, and the funding announcement has brought this one step closer again."

The work is expected to be complete by early summer 2015.
