Stainless UK Keeps Nottingham Tramway Moving
Stainless UK has supplied through local reinforcement products stockist Hy-Ten, nearly 650 stainless steel dowel bars for use on the extension to the Nottingham Express Transit light-rail tramway.
The 20mm smooth round bars were delivered complete with flexible PVC debonding sleeves. This allows free movement at one end of the bar enabling the bar to be used to form a movement joint between two concrete slabs.
Nottingham Express Transit is a light rail tramway that first opened in 2004. Its 14km of track runs from the south of the city centre to Hucknall. Such has been the success of the tramway that work has started extending the current line to Toton and building a new line to Clifton Park.
Stainless steel is the perfect material for use on major infrastructure projects such as this. The corrosion resistant property of stainless steel in harsh environments ensures a greatly extended service life when compared to mild steel products. Stainless steel has therefore become the material of choice for many key elements of road and rail projects throughout the country.
Other recent projects supplied by Stainless UK include the pier strengthening work to the M4 elevated section and repairs to the storm damaged rail track at Dawlish.
