Proposals To Build Primary School In Northamptonshire Move A Step Closer
Proposals to build a new primary school in Northamptonshire have reached the next stage.
Silverstone Infant and Junior Schools are to amalgamate as they are at full capacity and have no room to expand.
Cllr Matthew Golby, cabinet member for learning, skills and education, approved a decision to publish a statutory notice to close Silverstone Infant School and merge it with the junior school to create a new all-through primary school, which will eventually provide spaces for 420 children aged 4 to 11.
The new primary school would be built at a site known as New Rookery Farm off Towcester Road and would open in September 2016.
Cllr Golby said: "With an increasing number of families in the local area and planning permission being granted for a new housing development in Silverstone, we recognise the need to increase capacity and are looking to achieve this by amalgamating the two schools and creating a brand new primary school.
|The new school would double capacity and ensure that every family in the village has the option to send their child to their local school. We have already carried out some consultation with the local community and there is widespread support for a new primary school."
