Tidal Lagoon Power Moves Premises
Tidal Lagoon Power has moved into a new head office in Gloucester Docks. A team of forty full time employees will be joined by up to ninety-five colleagues from Atkins and Costain, two of the delivery partners helping to prepare the world's first tidal lagoon power plant for construction in Swansea Bay in spring 2015.
With capacity for 150 employees, Pillar & Lucy House gives the business a fitting waterside premises to accommodate further growth.
At 320MW installed capacity, with first power expected in 2018, Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon will be the largest marine energy development in the world. Tidal Lagoon Power plans to use the blueprint it establishes to develop five full-scale tidal lagoons in UK waters, meeting approximately 8% of the UK's electricity requirements.
Mark Shorrock, CEO of Tidal Lagoon Power: "Tidal lagoons will allow the UK to harness its incredible tidal range resource and offer a new option for affordable renewable energy deployment at a scale not seen before. The Severn Estuary is at the heart of this opportunity and so we are thrilled to move into a new base by the upper reaches of the River Severn.
"The roll-out of tidal lagoon infrastructure can bring significant advantage to UK industry, our coastal economies and our national balance of trade. With its rich industrial heritage and vibrant engineering sector, Gloucester is a perfect fit for our business."
