New Works On Underground Cable Replacement To Start

Work is underway in Liverpool to replace high voltage underground cables, with the next stage focusing on the Old Swan area.

The work is part of a major £15m investment programme and is being undertaken by SP Energy Networks, Iberdrola Engineering Construction and main contractors Excalon.

Contractors have worked closely with Liverpool City Council to minimise disruption to one of the city's most traffic sensitive routes.

The latest work is to be carried out during the half term holidays, 24 October to 03 November, as traffic in the area is expected to be reduced.

Broad Green Road will be closed throughout the works, with Derby Lane closed in a southerly direction only towards Prescot Road.

Traffic diversions will be in place for the duration of the works.

A spokesperson for SP Energy Networks said: "Together with Liverpool City Council and stakeholders all efforts are being made to keep traffic flowing. We have now posted signage along the route to advise of the upcoming work.

"We would like to thank residents for their patience so far, and we would encourage people to carefully plan their journeys in advance during this 9 day period. This major investment programme is designed to guarantee the continued high standards of electricity supplies across Liverpool, and replace cables that are approaching the end of their service."
