Planning Application To Demolish Part Of Derelict Factory Submitted
A planning application has been submitted by Cheshire East Council to demolish part of a derelict factory in Middlewich.
The council, which owns the site of the former Ideal Standard factory on Cledford Lane, plans to retain some structures, including the offices and the building which runs alongside the canal.
The application is subject to surveys and is intended to make safe a dangerous, low-roofed factory building.
A separate application will be made for full planning permission to build a new depot for Ansa, Cheshire East's operating company for recycling and streetscape services, which will enable us to boost recycling and reduce the use of landfill, making Cheshire East one of the UK's greenest boroughs.
Councillor David Topping, Cheshire East's Cabinet member for service commissioning, said there would be full consultation.
He said: "We plan to replace a large, untidy site with a smart-looking, new facility. To dispel some rumours: the site will be for non-commercial waste only; we have no intention of using it to produce energy from waste; and all our household waste sites will remain open."
