BAM Scoops £73m Contract
BAM Construction has won a contract to build an office development in Manchester.
The £73 million design and build contract was awarded by Allied London for the development of No. 1 Spinningfields at the former Quay House in Quay Street.
Plans include to develop a 24 storey building with over 260,000 sq ft of space and floor plates of up to 25,000 sq ft.
The office accommodation will include ground floor and mezzanine reception areas, providing space for restaurants, cafés and a business lounge.
A roof-top restaurant comprising over 6,000 sq ft will be built opening onto a garden terrace, along with two basement level car parking areas for 115 cars, 10 motorcycles and secure storage for 120 bicycles. Shower and lockers will also be provided.
The building will be developed to BREEAM 'Excellent' standards and was designed by architects Simpson Haugh & Partners, with technical detailing by Axis.
The development team includes Gardiner & Theobald as the Project Manager and Cost Consultant, with Mott MacDonald as the Façade Engineer.
Roc Consulting has been selected as the Civil and Structural Engineer for the design team and Grontmij as the Building Services Engineer.
Construction Director at BAM, Tony Gindrod, said: "No.1 Spinningfields is a great project for BAM in Manchester’s premier business district.
"We are delighted to have been chosen to deliver this high profile building, which follows our other prominent Manchester projects like the Co-Operative Group HQ at 1 Angel Square, Manchester City’s Football Academy and the National Graphene Institute."
Chief Executive of Allied London, Michael Ingall, said: "We are looking forward to delivering this landmark building with BAM and completing our Spinningfields masterplan."
Construction on the site is expected to last 97 weeks and will begin in June.
