Council Selects Design Team For £36.7m Development

Coventry City Council has selected a team to design the regions new £36.7 million city centre water park, swimming pool and leisure centre.

FaulknerBrowns has been appointed to draw up plans for the development.

The building will house a 25 metre swimming pool, a water park with slides, 120 station gym, climbing wall, squash courts, health suites, dance studio and spa.

Water Technology Inc (WTI) has been appointed to design the pools and indoor features which includes race slides, flumes, wave pools, rapids and wet play equipment.

Councillor Kevin Maton said: "I’m really excited that we have been able to put together such a high profile design team with an international reputation. We were clear in the brief that we want a landmark building - appropriate for our city centre – not the usual type of design used out of town in other areas.

"We were equally tough in our expectations for inside – the water slides and features need to have the wow factor as we expect to draw people into the city centre from across the city and the wider region. These two specialists are leaders in this area and I am confident that they will design something that is as visually impressive on the outside as it is exciting and fun to use on the inside."

The two consultants will work with the project team over the next year or so with construction work set to start on site in 2017, with a planned opening date of summer 2019.

The other professional appointments that complete the design team are Appleyard and Trew (Project Management), Desco (Mechanical and Electrical services) and Engenuiti (Structural Engineering).
