£21.7m Kent Flood Scheme Complete
A new £21.7m flood defence scheme has been completed in Kent.
The Sandwich Town Tidal Defence Scheme was delivered in partnership by the Environment Agency, Pfizer and Kent County Council.
It is the single largest flood defence scheme for three decades in the county.
The scheme involved works on 16 individual reaches of the river and will reduce the risk of tidal flooding to Sandwich and Stonar Loop.
It will provide a one in 200 standard protection to 488 homes and 94 commercial properties in Sandwich, including Discovery Park.
Ian Nunn, Environment Agency Operations Manager, said: "We are delighted to be completing this scheme which provides greater protection to the people and businesses in Sandwich from tidal flooding."
A ceremony and photo competition will be held to celebrate the completion of the project.
The event will take place on 11 September at 4pm in the Guild Hall in Sandwich.
