Hart District Council has given the go ahead for the development of a new leisure centre in Hampshire.

The £23m Hart Leisure Centre will be developed by Willmott Dixon at the edge of a new country park at Hitches Lane, Fleet.

SLM, operating at Everyone Active, is to be appointed to operate the current leisure centres Frogmore and Hart and the new leisure centre when it opens.

Councillor Ken Crookes said: "I am pleased that Council has agreed to go ahead and build the new leisure centre. I look forward to working with our new partners in delivering this outstanding new facility for the people of Hart."

Roger Forsdyke, Managing Director for Willmott Dixon, added: "We are delighted to be involved in the scheme; the new facility will be a fantastic hub for the local community. Having constructed a number of leading sports and leisure facilities we know the huge positive impact these centres have on the local community they service. We are thrilled to be part of the team."

The new Leisure Centre is set to open its doors in April 2017.
