Kier BAM JV Agrees £203m Contract
A Kier and BAM joint venture (JV) has agreed a £203 million contract in final form to deliver the first phase of the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station project.
Kier BAM has worked with developer EDF Energy to create a new revised and expanded enabling works deal.
The work will create 600 construction jobs and includes excavating over 5.5 million cubic metres of material, large scale earthworks, complex terracing structures and the creation of an expansive road network.
The programme has been designed to allow other contractors to deliver other elements of the project.
Sean Jeffery, Kier executive director, infrastructure and overseas said: "We have worked closely with the new nuclear team at EDF Energy to respond to key challenges, so we are proud of the role that we have played in helping the project to reach this critical milestone."
Stephen Fox, Chief Executive of BAM Nuttall, added: "This is a significant milestone in the ultimate delivery of this scheme.
"Once completed the Hinkley Point C power station is set to generate around seven per cent of the UK's electricity, all of which will be low carbon, and enough to power over five million homes."
