Construction News Image
Three projects which will 'transform' Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter are to share over £3.2 million in funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

The Jewellery Quarter Townscape Heritage Initiative is to receive £1.8m in funding.

The scheme will work with private owners and the city council to bring three Grade II listed structures back into use for either commercial, office or residential purposes.

In addition, the Jewellery Quarter's Cemeteries are to benefit from a £1.4m boost.

The Key Hill Cemetery and the Warstone Lane Cemetery are to be restored by the city council.

Works include restoring and replacing railings and stone pillars with new paths, gates and seating.

Finally, the New Standard Works project has been awarded £39,800.

Ruskin Mill Land Trust is to develop a plan to restore the Grade II listed former industrial building on Vittoria Street and Regent Place.

The Trust will prepare a plan for a full grant of nearly £890,000 to restore the building and create a Heritage Gallery that would act as a visitor centre for the Jewellery Quarter plus a community workshop, a cafe and makers' studios available to craftspeople.

Anne Jenkins, Deputy Director of Operations at HLF, said: "Thanks to National Lottery players we are able to support three superb projects that will help to restore and re-energise this area to safeguard its special heritage, strengthen its future potential, and contribute to the city’s prosperity."
