Morgan Sindall To Build Birmingham Schools
Morgan Sindall has announced it is underway with work to develop two schools for Birmingham City Council.
The firm will build eight schools in the region under the Construction West Midlands (CWM) framework.
The first school, Paganel Primary School, involves a £1.5m extension due to be complete in early 2016.
The new single-storey building will create four classrooms with office space and a reception area, with work due to be completed in March 2016.
In addition, Cherry Oak Special Needs School is to be significantly expanded with a £1.8m two-storey extension.
The new building is to house five extra classrooms, break-out rooms, a platform lift, offices and an ICT suite.
Other features include rendering the building half in white and half in laminated wood, along with a new reception entrance and hard/soft landscaping.
Morgan Sindall is in a consortium arrangement with its sister company Lovell on the multi-contractor CWM framework.
The consortium, known as Community Solutions, had its role on Lot 7 of the framework, which covers major capital projects with a value in excess of £500,000, extended this year.
Richard Fielding, area director at Morgan Sindall, said: "Both schools are undergoing transformations to enhance the learning environment for pupils under the CWM framework.
"The extensions on each school will allow for a higher pupil intake and give the teachers more space."
