Work Begins On £36m Coffee Roastery
Work is underway on a new £36 million roastery facility for Costa Coffee in Essex, it has been announced.
VolkerFitzpatrick is developing the 85,000 sq ft project at the Prologis Park Basildon.
Works include the construction of a single storey production unit to house Costa's coffee bean roasting ovens.
A green bean silo area and three storey office accommodation will also be constructed inside the building.
The facility will be capable of producing 45,000 tonnes of coffee beans every year once operations begin in early 2017.
Andy Stoney, VolkerFitpatrick operations director, said: "We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with Prologis UK to build this state of the art unit for Costa.
"Our part of the project is expected to be complete in June 2016 which will also include specialist work to ensure the facility is compliant with strict food safety and hygiene regulations."
Christopher Rogers, MD for Costa, added: "This is an important milestone in a truly exciting project for both Costa and Basildon. We are taking great pride in our new roastery – ensuring we deliver the very best facility in the world to meet customer demand in the long-term and support our growth."
