A Bolton based business is urging the government to take further steps to protect the UK steel industry.
Geoff Gibson, Managing Director of Select Garage Doors, is calling for action to be made after recent news that steel production is falling due to decreasing demand.
Select Garage Doors, one of the UK's leading manufacturers of made to measure, bespoke side hinged garage doors, has been making and selling its own garage doors for almost 15 years now, many of which have and continue to be made from steel.
Geoff Gibson, MD, said: "We are very proud of our company and the part we play in British manufacturing. Many of our staff have been working in the sector for over 20 years so the level of skills we have is something to be very proud of. By manufacturing our doors here in the UK we can create bespoke made-to-measure garage doors to suit exact measurements and needs and this legacy needs to be continued for generations to come."
UK Steel, the trade association for the UK steel industry, have recently released a statement pleading the government to lower business rates, relax emissions targets and to encourage the use of British-produced steel in major infrastructure projects.
Mr Gibson added: "Steel and iron are basic commodities of most manufacturing processes, so the UK steel sector is vital to the success of most manufacturing. All local businesses in the North-west and beyond must work together, in partnership with the government, to put Britain firmly back on the map as a leader in high quality manufacturing."
Since Select Garage Doors began over 15 years ago, staff numbers and turnover has doubled. The company now have 15 members of staff and the company is growing from strength to strength every year.
