Scottish firm Robertson Group has announced plans to expand into the English market.

The news comes as the company reported a record turnover of £298 million for the year, an increase of 14% compared to 2014.

The construction arm of the business also experienced a record year for turnover, up 12% to £217.6m.

Robertson Homes sales increased by 78% while its facilities management business increased turnover to £38m.

In addition, new business units were added the Group including Civil Engineering and Building Services, while staff numbers increased by 15%.

The company now employs over 1,700 people in 18 businesses throughout the UK.

As part of the Group's five-year plan, two construction groups have now been created to cover both Scotland and England.

With four construction businesses in Scotland and three in England, Robertson states each division is now capable of delivering £50 million in turnover per year.

Executive Chairman Bill Robertson said: "The results, which I am delighted to be announcing today, underline the success of the work the Group has undertaken in the last five years and the general growth that we have achieved across our businesses.

"I believe our regional business model has been a strength in recent times, where each autonomous business can react to their own local markets in good times or bad, and is under no pressure to grow unless good value can be gained from their workload.

"Over 60% of Robertson Group revenue is generated from construction operations, where margins have historically been low. With fewer players in the market, more frameworks and opportunities to work with clients and their advisers up front, which avoids wasted tendered periods.

"There is a real opportunity to raise margin levels to more sustainable levels."
