Work Underway On Bridge Maintenance Project In North Yorkshire

Construction News Image
Work is underway to carry out essential maintenance work to a bridge in North Yorkshire, Highways England has announced.

Contractors have begun replacing the bridge barriers on the structure which carries the A64 over the River Ouse at Bishopthorpe.

The works require a full closure of the A64 in both directions for five nights in order to install new lanes and protective barriers.

In addition, work will begin in March to replace the bridge expansion joint on the eastbound carriageway at Bishopthorpe.

The project is due to be completed in May.

Signed diversions and traffic management will be in effect during both the works.

Highways England service delivery team leader, Roger Wantling, said: "Following a meeting with the City of York Council officers we have both agreed to continue with the work as planned at Bishopthorpe as this is essential maintenance work that needs to take place.

"Our work on the A64 near Tadcaster continues to be postponed following flooding in the town while we continue discussions with local stakeholders."
