EA Invites Public To Flood Defence Drop-In Event In Suffolk
The Environment Agency (EA) is inviting the public to attend a drop-in event discussing flood defence upgrade work in Suffolk.
It is understood upcoming works will take place in front of the seawall at Slaughden beach in Aldeburgh.
In addition, existing protection from the Martello Tower will be extended to near Aldeburgh Yacht Club.
The EA will build around 200 metres of rock footings in order to protect the main defence of the former village.
Materials are to be delivered by sea and placed in front of the seawall before reinstating the beach with shingle.
The EA stated beach levels at Slaughden had lowered in recent years, exposing the footings of the seawall and making it vulnerable to fail.
David Kemp, Coastal Team Leader at the EA, said: "Maintaining the flood defence at Slaughden is important for the whole estuary. Rock toe protection will absorb the impact of strong waves which will reduce the risk of any breaches to the seawall. This will allow us to continue managing flood risk to the Alde/Ore estuary."
The drop-in event will take place from 2pm – 6pm at Aldeburgh Parish Church Hall on Thursday, 21 January.
