Plans Approved For £400m Football Stadium In London

Construction News Image
Plans have been approved to build a new £400 million stadium for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club (FC) in London.

The Mayor of London Boris Johnson granted final approval for the new White Hart Line development in the north of the city.

Plans include building the new 61,000-seater stadium on the site of their current ground, including a retractable pitch to host two American Football games per season as well.

Other international sports events and concerts will also be hosted.

Proposals include building new public space to host dedicated events programmes, a 180-bed hotel, a 'sky walk' attraction and a new sports and health centre.

The Grade II-listed Warmington House will also be redeveloped into an interactive club museum.

In addition, 585 new homes will be built on the site, with £48.4m secured from the residential development towards the stadium improvements.

Haringey Council gave outline planning permission for the redevelopment plans in December.

Mayor Johnson said: "White Hart Lane is already an iconic stadium, steeped in history, and the new venue will not only almost double its capacity, but provide world-class facilities to watch Premier League football, international sports events and concerts in the heart of the capital.

"The stadium will also be the focal point of a major drive to regenerate Tottenham, breathing new life into the area, creating jobs and boosting growth."

Daniel Levy, Chairman of Tottenham Hotspur FC, added: "This marks yet another major milestone for this vital and complex scheme and we are grateful to the Mayor for his ongoing support. We remain focused on completing the final stages of the planning process."
