Residents Invited To Flood Scheme Drop-In Event In North Yorkshire
Residents of a village in North Yorkshire have been invited to attend a drop in session to discuss a flood alleviation project in the region.
A £6 million water storage reservoir is set to be built to prevent flooding on the A1 motorway and Catterick Village.
The facility will be developed upstream of Catterick, between Brough Park and the A1 motorway, and will be able to hold 91 million gallons of water.
The flood storage area will provide a significantly improved standard of flood protection for 149 homes and businesses as well as protecting the motorway.
Work on the year-long project is due to begin this spring.
The Environment Agency (EA) scheme is jointly funded by Highways England and North Yorkshire County Council.
EA Project Manager, Philip Boyes, said: "We have been working closely in partnership with Highways England and North Yorkshire County Council to develop this scheme and their support has been vital in enabling us to secure the necessary funding so the work can to go ahead.
"When completed, the storage reservoir will hold flood water back so it flows more slowly down Brough Beck towards Catterick village and the new section of the A1 which is currently under construction. This will significantly reduce flood risk in the area."
Details of the project will be on display during the meeting between 3pm to 5:30pm at Booth Memorial Hall, Carrick on Monday, 07 March.
