Law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has been selected to advise Tideway on its £4.2 billion Thames Tideway Tunnel project.

The four-year contract will begin on 01 April and covers a range of legal services including planning & environment, real estate, asset protection, construction and procurement.

Tideway, a new company created to finance and deliver the project, will build 15 miles of 'Super sewer' stretching under London to help prevent untreated sewage from flowing into the city's river.

It will intercept 34 of the most polluting Combined Sewer Overflows, with construction scheduled for 2016.

The structure will be 7.2 metres in diameter and have capacity for 1.6 million cubic metres.

James Good, Planning Partner at BLP, said: "This project marks an important milestone in both our long-standing relationship with the Thames Tideway Tunnel and our work in improving on London's basic infrastructure.

"Our work with Tideway is another great opportunity for us to demonstrate our ability to work across several practice groups and deliver on a huge project that will benefit the UK's capital."
