Mott MacDonald To Design Multi-Million Flood Scheme In Ireland

Construction News Image
Mott MacDonald has been selected to design a €30-40 million food defence scheme for Wexford County Council in Ireland.

The project is being funded by the Office of Public Works and will be developed in Enniscorthy on the banks of the River Slaney.

Historically, the town has been subject to flooding, most recently in 2015.

The project will cover a 3.5km section of the river, including the construction of flood defence walls on both banks of the river, river channel widening and deepening, a flow diversion channel, underpinning of existing bridges and riverbed stabilisation.

Works include the design and development of a new pedestrian bridge spanning the river into the centre of Enniscorthy.

The flood defence scheme is due to be completed in 2019.

Fintan McGivern, Mott MacDonald's project director, said: "The completion of this scheme will provide the residents and businesses of Enniscorthy with protection against flooding that has caused so much damage and disruption in the past. The scheme will add to the list of successful flood defence projects completed on behalf of the Office of Public Works and various local authorities throughout Ireland."
