Council To Reconsider £95m Bristol Arena Plans

Construction News Image
Bristol City Council are due to reconsider plans for a new 12,000-capacity arena in the city.

Proposals for the £95 million Bristol Arena project are due to go before the Development Control Committee (DCC) on 06 April.

Councillors will consider two applications; a detailed planning application covering the arena building, public plaza and access, as well as an outline application for the future development of Arena Island.

A new report will also accompany the applications, detailing progress made on transport plans to and from the arena for visitors.

Previously, councillors had expressed concerns about the traffic impact of the new arena.

A total of £7.75m has been set aside for the transport measures from the project budget and a timetable will be provided to give confidence to committee members that all the plans will be in place for day one of arena opening.

George Ferguson, Mayor of Bristol, said: "I'm pleased that we have managed to get the arena plans back to committee within a month. Officers have been pulling out all the stops to provide the additional transport information requested by councillors. I hope that this new report, along with conditions that will be attached to the application, will give them the confidence they require to approve the plans for this vitally important venue for the city region."
