Approval Granted For £95m Bristol Arena

Construction News Image
Approval has been granted to develop a new 12,000-capacity arena in Bristol.

Two applications for the £95m Bristol Arena development were brought back before the council's Development Control Committee on 06 April.

The resubmission follows a deferral last month to allow for additional transport information to be provided.

Both applications received unanimous support along with a detailed planning application for the building with a public plaza and new access routes, and an outline application for the future development of housing, business and leisure uses close to the arena on Arena Island.

The proposals were granted on conditions that will need to be discharged before the facility opens.

Located close to Temple Meads station on a former diesel depot site, Bristol Arena will contain spaces for public exhibitions, fashion shows and conferences.

Work is underway to create new access routes to Arena Island, with work due to begin on the main building later this year.

The arena is set to open in 2018.
