Work Begins On £45m Leisure Scheme In Stockport
Work is underway on a new £45 million leisure scheme in Stockport.
The Redrock Stockport project is being built for the council by Wates.
The 75,000 sq ft development will provide retail, leisure and restaurants including a 10-screen cinema. A 360-space multi-storey car park will also be built.
The development is part of the local authorities 'Investing in Stockport' which will see around £900m invested into 'Growth' projects.
Caroline Simpson, Corporate Director for Place Management and Regeneration at Stockport Council, said: "It is exciting to join Stockport at a time when plans for the town centre are becoming a reality. Stockport is a great town with so many strengths but we want it to grow even more and our Investing in Growth work is making this happen. Redrock Stockport will bring new restaurants and first class leisure facilities to the heart of the town centre for residents and visitors to enjoy."
Tony Shenton, Business Unit Director, Wates Construction North West, added: "Stockport Council's investment in the new leisure scheme at Redrock signals a resurgence of economic optimism that is emerging across the North West.
"Up until this point, the build programme has seen Wates appoint a local supply chain; a commitment that is set to provide an economic boost to the area and generate a host of training and employment opportunities for the community."
