Around 10 miles of new surface will be laid as part of the Government's record level of investment in roads since the 1970s.

Work will involve overnight carriageway and slip road closures, and is expected to be completed by the end of July.

Highways England route sponsor Stephen Hall said: "We will be resurfacing sections of the M1 to provide drivers with smoother and safer journeys."

The work will be carried out overnight between 10pm – 5.30am from Monday to Thursday, and between 11pm – 6am on Fridays.

Diversions will be in place.
