Britcon Wins £13.5m AD Plant Construction Contract

Britcon has won a £13.5 million contract to deliver construction works on a new anaerobic digestion (AD) plant in Dagenham.

The £32m project is being developed for Refood (UK) at the London Sustainable Industries Park (SIP) in Dagenham Dock.

Britcon's contract award follows the firms successful delivery of construction works for Refood on a £24m plant in Widnes and a £20m plant in Doncaster, including a £5m extension.

The Dagenham plant will include a modern gas to grid (G2G) facility capable of recycling 160,000 tonnes of food waste each year. In addition, the facility will be able to generate more than 2,000 m2/hr of methane gas and power over 10,000 homes across the region.

As Principal Contractor, Britcon will carry out groundworks, remediation works, piling operations, structural steelwork buildings and construction of works for multiple high rise, post tensioned, circular, reinforced concrete digester, receiving and gas storage tanks.

The 66-week project also includes of a sustainable high specification office complex, a modern depackaging building with deep basement, numerous process structures and extensive external and landscaping works.

The AD plant is due to open in summer 2017.
