Network Rail is due to begin a platform expansion project in Berkshire.

Engineers will start extending the platforms at Martins Heron station from Sunday, 19 June.

The project is part of an £800 million investment to improve capacity on the railway running into London Waterloo.

Overall, ten stations will be upgraded on the rail network, including an additional five platforms at the former Waterloo International Terminal.


Catherine Oldham, project sponsor at Network Rail, said: "Since 1996 the number of passenger journeys on routes into and out of London Waterloo has increased from 108 million to over 230 million making it one of the most intensively used sections of the railway network in Britain, so we're really excited to be delivering more capacity and better journeys for passengers on this route."

The scheme is due to be completed in October.
